Mark Yates slams sloppy defending at the Pirelli Stadium

Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates talking to the media following this afternoon's 3-1 defeat to Burton:

"I thought we were great for 20 minutes except for no end product. I felt the system was working and the home fans were starting to have a moan but we have conceded three sloppy soft goals. We cannot do that against a team like Burton who are in fine form at home. I said to the boys at half time to keep believing because we could still get something but the third has gone in and denied us.

"I thought the back four were all awful today and I don't think anyone came out with any credit. Michael Hector has been very good for us but I thought his standards slipped today and I have told him that. We are better than that. We had plenty of chances in the second half but they put their bodies on the line

"After 20 minutes we switched off and got found out. We had chances to get the ball away and clear it but poor decision making and a couple of deflections later and the ball is in the back of the net. The second goal was a great cross and a great finish but whoever was marking him wasn't marking him well enough. The third goal was poor defending to let someone head it from a yard out.

"We didn't get enough bodies in the box in the first half or support to Paul so I felt we needed to be more ruthless in the second half but unfortunately we were 2-0 down. We needed to be a little more braver and Byron and Jermaine have been positive for us but that third goal took a bit of life out of us.

"I felt we needed to be more positive in the second half. Jason (Taylor) had done nothing wrong at all but he is a more destructive player and I wanted to be a little more brave but it hasn't paid off.

"I'm delighted for Byron and I thought he was excellent when he came on. He was a real handful, got his goal but could have had a few more as well."
