Yates: Plenty To Build On

30 July 2013

Mark Yates believes there is plenty to work on but is happy with how pre-season has gone.

Mark Yates speaking to the local press following the 3-1 loss at Kidderminster:

"It's the end of pre-season and this game was always going to be tough for the boys because we made the decision to rest quite a few of them after the weekend. It's a decision I stick by.

"It was a good workout for a number and some need to look at themselves and think whether they're ready and some need to step up. It was a good 90 minutes against a good side. Kidderminster have got a good squad and they'd grace our league no problem at all. We didn't play very well and I know that but it's not about results. It's about game time and they'll benefit from that on Saturday.

"I know where I'm going with Saturday. I just wanted to get game time into players tonight so objective achieved. I've got a few decisions to make for Saturday but I'll make them. It's the end of pre-season and it's onto Thursday and we'll go from there.

"It was never about winning here tonight and it wasn't against Coventry, Cardiff or Gloucester either. It's about game time and getting them ready for Saturday.

"Pre-season has been great. It has been hard work and tough but we've seen some good things and things that we need to improve on quickly. There is plenty to build on."
