Yates: A Good Start

10 July 2013

Mark Yates happy with a good workout for his Robins.

Mark Yates speaking to the media following the 7-0 friendly win over Evesham United:

"It's a good start. The lads have worked really hard in the tend days so far. 7-0 is a bit of a flattering scoreline and not something we are used to but it was a really good workout for everybody with some pleasing stuff.

"There were some positives everywhere. We looked good at the back, we knocked the ball about well in midfield and we did well up front too. All of the trialists have staked their claim but it's important to get everyone game time. It's not about the result but the scoreline does bring confidence and a smile to their faces. We trained before the game but we didn't kill them although we worked hard.

"I'm probably a couple of players down on what I would like but I'm trying to use what money I have as best I can. We're not flushed and throwing it around. I speak to agents every day and everyone's moaning that it's slow but there are plenty of players out there and we're in for a couple as well as looking at trialists. I've made offers to a couple where I'm waiting on answers and those will determine what we can do after that. We are probably a couple of players light in terms of being signed to the club but I'm alright with that.

"Danny O'Donnell is helping us out and were helping him out by getting him fit. We'll see what happens as it wasn't something I was really pushing. He is a mate of Billy Jones from their Crewe days and he wanted to work in a football environment rather than be at home by himself. We will give him an opportunity and take a look at him. George Bowerman was only on the pitch a minute and he scores but that's hat he does. He's got a tweak in his thigh but hopefully it's nothing too bad. Joe Anyinsah was very good for us today and Josh Rees was decent too.

"The young boys (Zack Kotwica and Bobbie Dale) have been training with us for a little bit and I felt they stepped up and showed us what they could do.

"There were some really positive things from tonight and hopefully we can carry that on through the season.

"All the trialists will be with us on Saturday at Cirencester. We go to Wales after that and we'll decide who will come along with us but we won't make snap decisions and they aren't all pressing me for answers. It does show how tough it is out there because there are hundreds of good players out there trying to get work and contracts. We will go through it slowly and as best we can."
