Gornell Joins Robins

12 July 2013

Former Shrewsbury and Rochdale striker Terry Gornell has joined Cheltenham Town this morning.

Terry Gornell has signed a two year contract with Cheltenham Town FC this morning following his release from Rochdale.

The 23 year-old striker arrived at the training ground this morning to complete his transfer to the Abbey Business Stadium and his contract will him through until the summer of 2015.

Robins manager Mark Yates revealed yesterday that he was closing in on two transfer targets and he was delighted to finally bring in another frontman.

"Terry is a good player with a good track record," said Mark.

"He has been on our radar before and I've made a couple of enquiries but he certainly offers us something a little different to what we already have. Terry will play some part at Cirencester but we will assess him today in training. We have brought him here to be a big part of our season."

Terry started his career at Tranmere Rovers and made his debut in 2008 before joining Accrington Stanley on loan. His short spell with Stanley saw him score 4 goals in 11 appearances before heading back to Prenton Park to become a more prominent member of their squad. He scored his first Tranmere goal against MK Dons but found himself departing Tranmere in 2010 having scored 3 goals in 40 appearances.

The Livepool-born frontman linked back up with Accrington and spent a year with the club scoring 13 goals in 40 appearances. His next stop was Shrewsbury Town in 2011 and he scored his first goal for the Shrews in a 1-1 draw with Burton Albion. The striker scored nine league goals for Shrewsbury in their promotion year but found himself out on loan to Rochdale during their League One campaign. He later left Shrewsbury in January 2013 having scored 9 goals in 53 appearances and signed for Dale permanently. Terry was released by Keith Hill's Rochdale back in May having scored 5 goals in 19 appearances in one season.

Gornell has since been a free agent but Mark Yates snapped the striker up this morning to make him the club's fourth summer signing and has handed him squad number 10.
