Yates: We'll Be Refreshed

10 January 2013

Mark Yates knows his players will need to be at their best again against York on Saturday

Mark Yates speaking to the media ahead of Saturday's home game against York...

"I'm glad the Everton game was here and now I'm glad it's out the way. We can now move on but the whole club did themselves proud. I thought the scoreline was harsh. One or two highlighted that we need to  improve on certain areas but everyone put a shift in against a top quality side and we now look back to the remaining 21 games of the season, in the league where we are sat in a decent position.

"Over the next week or ten days we'd like to bring in a couple of players. I'm trying frantically and I really want to improve the group that we've got and help the boys that are already here but its taken longer for various reasons but maybe something can happen soon. We need to improve one or two things, we need to keeping working on the boys that we've got, keep the great spirit that we've got but also the current boys in the squad need a little bit of help.

"Gary Mills has been doing a great job at York over the last couple of years. They like to play 4-3-3, have lots of pace and good players who can hurt you and we had a really tough game up there. A draw I think was a fair result that day as we both had chances to win. They've had a really comfortable season so far and they've done well. But we're concentrating on ourselves and there won't be any hangover from Monday. We'll make sure we're refreshed, recovered, be full of energy and will play as well as we can.

"The last four to six weeks Russ Penn has been outstanding for us and others can take note from that. He's had a period where he was left out of the squad once or twice and he's responded to that in perfect fashion and it's an honour what a good character he is and I know what a good player he is. I thought him and Marlon were outstanding the other night, and one or two others weren't far behind, so the midfield three can be pleased with themselves.

"We brought Darren Carter off as a precaution on Monday but I don't see there being a problem for him for Saturday."
