Yates: We Will Be Ready

11 February 2013

Mark Yates is looking for an improvement in his side against Southend United tomorrow evening.

Mark Yates speaks to the media ahead of Tuesday evening's fixture against Southend United...

Following Saturday's dissapointing away defeat at the hand of Dagenham and Redbridge the Robins have the opportunity to immediately bounce back against Southend United.

"We didn't perform well, it's a big test, it's our next game and they're a good side. We've lost one game in six but we need to get back to what we're good at and we didn't do that on Saturday. We got sucked in to try and out Dagenham, Dagenham and we didn't play well at all.

"We'll get back on the training ground and we'll work on what we're trying to do. We'll be in this morning, we'll work on the team and we'll try and get it right. On Saturday I didn't get my team selection right because we lost and we didn't perform well. We didn't do anything that we're about.

"I know my team for tomorrow and we will work on it today. We will be ready for tomorrow.

"We have to forget about Saturday because there was nothing good in the game at all. Scott Brown made a penalty save and probably had our best effort on goal so that tells you something. Apart from that we were pretty abject, we need to put that right and whoever's picked will have to be ready for it.

"Southend are just below us (in the league) but every game is an important one, whatever the circumstances. It's important to get our next three points as soon as we can but it's also important to put in a good performance. I'll take a good performance tomorrow to start with and we will obviously be going out to win the game as well.

"They're getting results, they've got big strong players and they will put crosses into the box, their lad up front has just come back and will score goals for them. They're a good side and they've got lots of good players. They had a few injuries on Saturday by the looks of it but we've got to look after ourselves and after Saturday we need to make sure we do our jobs properly, better than we did the other day and that will be the aim of the team that go out there.

"We didn't try and do what Dagenham do but we got sucked into it. We talked about passing the ball and getting it into areas where we can hurt them but we just went from back to front far to early. It just played into their hands and it didn't allow us to build a head of steam and get any decent section of the game where we really controlled it.

"It was horrible to watch for us on the sidelines and it must have been pretty poor to play in. I don't think any of the players enjoyed it but you've got to do it. When you come up against teams who do what they do and do it well you've just got to stand up from them and impose yourself but we didn't do that. We didn't impose ourself in the slightest."

"There are 15 games to go and like I said Southend is the most important one because it's the next one and that's our mantra here. Whoever's picked will get the chance to put that right. We've got a good squad but we didn't do ourselves and favours on Monday. You can drop a few places if you don't  win a couple of games on the spin so we're not down about anything but we need to put Saturday's result right."
