The Cheltenham Town Academy has moved quickly to snap up young defender Callum McFarlane.
Head of Youth Russell Milton confirmed this afternoon that the Academy has signed young defender Callum McFarlane to it's ranks.
Callum, 17, is a 6'3" central defender who is predominantly left footed and has been on the books with Birmingham City's youth system. Callum, who will come into the Academy as a first year scholar, has trained with his new team-mates and is eligible to play for the young Robins this weekend at home to Bristol Rovers although Russell Milton is keen for his new acquisition to settle in first.
"He could play but we'll see because he needs to get himself sorted," said Russ.
"He is 6'3", strong and he has a great left foot on him so we're happy to have brought him in. We had to wait for confirmation from the LFE because his education needs to be sorted but he's ahead in all of that and he's a bright lad.
"We play Birmingham in the FA Youth Cup and he could certainly play in that but it might come a little too early for him but we will see. He has played for us a few times already and he has more than held his own so he is a good prospect.
The former Birmingham City youth player is also eligible to play for Cheltenham Town in this season's FA Youth Cup which will pit him against his former team-mates in the 3rd round.
The youth team face Birmingham City here at the Abbey Business Stadium in the FA Youth Cup 3rd round on Tuesday 17 December (7pm). For more information on the big game, click here.
