Yates: A Great Experience

26 August 2013

Mark Yates believes the West Ham game will be a great experience for all.

Mark Yates speaking to the media ahead of the Capital One Cup match at West Ham United:

"The win on Saturday will help us going into tomorrow's game. It was an ugly win but I asked for a scrappy 1-0 win because that's what I felt we needed.

"Tomorrow's game is completely different and no-one gives us a prayer but we have to go down there and enjoy it. We will give it our best shot because it's two teams and upsets happen. We've got to give ourselves every chance of doing that but we now it will be tough whatever team they play. I don't think they will play the same team by the sounds of it so we expect a few changes because he has real quality in there

"Their manager (Sam Allardyce) has been there, seen it and done it. Sam is a busy man but it's good to learn off good people and I'm sure we'll have a chat after the game.

"We will try and play our way and be as good and as competitive as we can against decent opposition. If we get anything out of it then it will be a massive bonus but we will play to the best of our ability and see what happens on the night.

"West Ham are described as direct but they have players like Downing, Jarvis, Noble and Cole. Sam's teams get labelled but they are probably a team that mix it up the most and they have the threat of whoever they play up top but they also have good wingers. Teams play different ways but it's about whether you can keep clean sheets and score more goals and Sam's teams have done that very well over the years. I don't think they are a long ball team. I think they have that threat but they've also got a midfield player who can score 15 goals a season. We know it will be tough but we won't set up for any particular way they play. The player will know a few bits but it's about us going there and playing as well as we can.

"It will be a great experience for everybody and we will go there and give it our best shot."

Thoughts from Mark Yates, Jermaine McGlashan and Steven Gillespie will be available shortly on YouTube and RobinsPlayer.
