Howarth: Important Win

24 August 2013

Neil Howarth happy with a well fought three points.

Robins assistant manager Neil Howarth speaking to the media following this afternoon's 1-0 victory over Accrington:

"Accrington is a tough place to come but we've got the three points and that was important. The clean sheet was important obviously but to bounce back from last weekend was pleasing. We had a long hard week at the training ground and we've had some good sessions and meetings to work out what went wrong.

"We certainly didn't overreact because it's easy to look like a poor side when you're 3-0 down but there were some good bits to take from the game.

"We went a bit more narrow today and we brought Jason Taylor back in. He's a tough defensive midfielder that's popped up in the box to score the winning goal. There's always pluses and minuses in any formation that you play but we've got a good squad and we keep saying it. If Jermaine McGlashan's sat on your bench then you must be doing something right and it worked well. It's great having an extra man in the middle of the park to play with three in there but you tend to miss having an extra forward so we had both today.

"I felt the first half was two teams who hadn't started the season well but weren't showing much quality and because of that I felt the forwards were feeding off scraps. I felt we took more control as the game went on though and we started to show bits of the kind of football we can play. It was a good time to scored and I felt we deserved to win after the second half performance.

"We didn't play as well as we can or will but we have got the all important first win."
