Mark Yates' Cheltenham crashed Gillingham's promotion party and denied them the title for at least another week with a 1-0 victory.
The Robins needed a win to remain in the automatic promotion hunt and the Gills needed to better Port Vale's result to clinch the title but it was Cheltenham who proved to be the better side on the day.
The match kicked off at a fast pace with both sides claiming solid opportunities in front of goal but neither could break the deadlock going into half time. It was in the second half in which Cheltenham really took command of proceedings and a Billy Jones corner gave Michael Hector the chance he needed to head in the winning goal - his first for Cheltenham Town. Martin Allen's Gillingham piled late pressure upon the Cheltenham goal but the Robins stood firm to collect all three points in a show of unity.
