Yates: Tough One To Crack

25 October 2012

Mark Yates expecting a tough encounter this weekend.

Mark Yates speaking to the media ahead of this weekend's encounter with Exeter:

"The boys were back in this morning preparing for the game this weekend. We don't take anyone lightly and they know that this weekend is like a local derby-ish. Exeter are a good side and Paul Tisdale is a really good manager so they will be a tough one to crack.

"They've made a terrific start and things haven't been going for them recently but the draw the other night will be a lift for them and they'll be looking to come here and beat us. Players like Cureton, Gow, Baldwin and Coles offers a lot of experience and they have plenty of youth mixed with that too. These will be a big test and we must do everything we can between now and then to make sure we're up for it.

"It's tight at the top but we must keep picking up points as quickly as we can. Our focus is always on the next game and that won't change.

"I'll do what I think is the right thing to do this weekend. We changed our formation on Tuesday to try and win the game. We got a little lucky because it opened us up a little but it might be the way forward. Sam Deering has been patient but also very good in training and he comes back into the reckoning with Russ Penn suspended. Everyone comes back into contention. We have options and we'd like more but I'm sure I'll be happy with the team I pick.

"I have been making a few phone calls and I was on it for most of the day yesterday. It's a little difficult right now to bring players in but we'll see what we have tomorrow morning and pick from that. It's difficult losing Russ because Darren (Carter) will probably be out too but we'll cope. Darren does have a chance for Saturday but in all probability he won't be quite right. They all had a well earned day off after two tough games but we are back in today to make sure we do things properly.

"One of my kids told me that Scott (Brown) would make his 200th start on Saturday so hopefully he gets the nod! He has played exceptionally well this season and at the end of last season. He is a credit to himself how he handled last season and I think he is better for that.

"Paul Tisdale has done a fantastic job down at Exeter and I'm sure he has had chances to move on but he's very loyal. He is very tacticaly astute and a good talker and I'm sure they'll be one of the teams fighting to get out of this league come the end of the season."
