Yates: Fleetwood Are On The Up

4 October 2012

Mark Yates is looking forward to a tough test versus the Football League new boys.

Mark Yates speaking to the media ahead of this weekend's home clash with Fleetwood Town:

"It was the performance we needed last night. We had to go an earn and we certainly did that. We had to scrap and fight but we also had the quality to play football. It all went very well but we should have put the game to bed. It was a tough physical local derby and we have picked up a few bumps and bruises but we're back in this morning preparing for Saturday.

"We haven't played on a Wednesday for quite some time and it's a quick turnaround but it won't hamper our energy because the next two days will be a little lighter. We'll get their legs going today and we'll then pick a team Friday ready for a tough game on Saturday.

"I expect everyone to be fit to be honest. I was never going to pick Shaun Harrad last night so sorry for misleading but it's not always right to throw around your team selection and who is available. He could be fine for Fleetwood.

"It's no coincidence that we have been better at the back since Alan Bennett has returned. We have been more organised and both Alan and Stevey were excellent last night. Our work rate was superb and it has been pleasing to get another clean sheet. Do I think Browny is a better keeper than 12 months ago? Yes. He has improved 15/20% as a goalkeeper and he has stood up to the test and we're seeing the benefit of it.

"Our aim is to get as high up the table as early as we can and then stay there. I want to be be able to go above Fleetwood on Saturday and the onyl way to do that was to beat Bristol Rovers last night which we did. We'll take it one game at a time but little goals give the boys something to focus on.

"After winning the BlueSquare Premier, Fleetwood are a club on the up. They are well backed by a young ambitious chairman and they are well run by a very young ambitious manager. I was fortunate enough to take Kidderminster up there a few years ago and the pitch was as good as anything I have ever seen and you could just tell something was going to happen there. Fleetwood are a club on the up and they'll be looking to maintain their momentum this weekend."
