Yates: Everybody Must Do Better

9 October 2012

Robins chief angry at tonight's defeat and rues 'joke' goals.

Mark Yates speaking to the media following this evening's JPT defeat to Oxford:

"I don't think anybody saw that happening until 65 minutes and we then conceded four joke goal - absolutely pathetic goals. Credit to them for sticking at it but we were in total control and we didn't test the keeper enough in the second half. A few players have been asking me questions and I got a few answers out there tonight but not necessarily all of them positive.

"I don't like individual errors because we work as a team. Clearly we didn't defend three straight balls and at this level that is outrageous. We have let our goalkeeper down today. When we were going well we looked a decent team but when we conceded the second we lost our way. We won't let this affect us for Saturday.

"Darryl (Duffy) has been itching to play and it was good to see him score. I thought he was good all game to be fair.

"I was excited with the team I was playing tonight and I knew we would play but I just wonder whether they thought they were going through in the second half because it didn't work out that way.

"There are plenty of positives from the 65 minutes but it's all about doing it for the 90 and we didn't do that. We are out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and people must learn from the mistakes made as a team. I thought we looked really bright going forward in the first half. We had some good play i nthe second half but you can have all the play in the world and it won't make a difference if you aren't ruthless. I don't like losing and I haven't taken that competition lightly at all. It's back to work on the training ground for everybody and we must be better."
