Yates: All About Consistency

18 October 2012

Mark Yates is urging his Robins to continue their 'promotion form'.

Mark Yates speaking to the press ahead of this weekend's trip to Bradford City:

"I think the performances are improving. We played well in patches against Wimbledon but I know there is more to come and if we keep getting the results then it is a sign of a good side. We defended resolutely and we deserved a clean sheet. AFC Wimbledon had nothing to lose but we really should have put the game to bed and we didn't. I want us to be better at everything but I can't complain with the effort and work rate right now. It's still early stages of the season but we are getting to that stage where we need to be producing a little more but that will come.

"We've spoken as a staff about a hangover from the play-offs but the players have been superb and have been making sure that we build on last season. Last year was last year but we feel we have a better squad and we are capable of achieving. Marlon (Pack) said the other day that it's about action and not words so we can talk about it as much as we want but it's all about how we play on the day. It's all about not getting too high when you win and not getting too low when you lose. It's all about consistency and two defeats in 12 games is promotion form.

"Phil (Parkinson) has done a good job with Bradford. I went to the Port Vale game on Monday and I was speaking to a few other League Two managers and a few of them suggested that Bradford have got potentialy the best squad and players in the division. They have had a great start and they have threats everywhere so we aren't kidding ourselves because we know it will be a tough game. I know Phil Parkinson well and they'll know we are a decent side. The pitch looks good and we're looking forward to it.

"Their crowd come in big numbers, they're very vocal and very supportive. They know that Phil has done a good job over the summer and has built a good squad so they will be right behind them and it's up to us to make them impatient. We were excellent there last year. Although it was only 1-0 and we had to defend balls in our box, we looked strong and dangerous. We scored early and should have had a few more to be honest.

"We've had a good week and we have done what we feel is necessary to prepare for this weekend and next week too. The boys have had a breather but have also worked hard. We travel up tomorrow, train on the way and there is a good little buzz around the place. We can only get better."
