Robins To Face Yate Town Or Newport

21 October 2012

Cheltenham Town will play either Yate Town or Newport County at home in the FA Cup first round.

Cheltenham Town have today been drawn at home against either Yate Town or Newport County in the FA Cup first round.

The fixture will be played on the weekend of the 3rd November. More news and information of this fixture will be published here on www.ctfc.com when available.

"It could have been worse and it could have been better," said Mark Yates.

"Newport are flying high so will obviously be tough but Yate were leading yesterday so they cannot be underestimated. Either way we will not be taking anyone lightly especially in the FA Cup.

"I look forward to whoever we face in the first round."

Yate Town have been an opponent many times for Cheltenham Town in the County Cup but the joint lowest ranked side in the competition threw away a 3-1 lead against Newport yesterday and will face an uphill battle to progress now. The Robins last played Newport competitively in 1997 and it ended 0-0.

Cheltenham reached the third round last season having beaten Tranmere and Luton but were eventually beaten by Premiership giants Tottenham Hotspur.
