Yates: Reaction Needed

19 November 2012

Mark Yates is expecting his players to work hard for their rewards against Chesterfield.

Mark Yates speaking to the press ahead of tomorrow's away trip to Chesterfield:

"We didn't perform anywhere near the standard we should have at the weekend. It was a fantastic start but wherever you go, if you get a one goal start, you must be better than we were. We played well for 50 seconds but after that we were tepid and bullied. We had a fantastic chance against a team that had just lost 5-0 to ram it down their throats because of the early goal but we didn't and we weren't good enough after we scored. We huffed and puffed in the second half but the damage was already done.

"It's a reminder that we're not unbeatable. We are a lot better than we showed and that is what I was unhappy about. I'm not saying we didn't work hard enough but we certainly didn't channel that into the right areas.

"Having a game on Tuesday is perfect so we can put a few things right and all the players are ready to go. I know we haven't got a good record against Chesterfield but it's all about this group putting that right.

"We'll know how they want to play and, again, they have got a good squad and I'm surprised they are where they are but they won't end up anywhere near where they are right now. I'm more concerned about my players reacting in a positive manner and I'm pretty sure that is going to happen.

"I don't think anyone really came out of the weekend's game with any credit and I pick the team so I include myself in that. We all have to be a lot better starting from Tuesday night."
