Yates: We're Still In It

3 December 2012

Mark Yates believes there is more to come from his Robins side

Mark Yates speaking to the media following tonight's FA Cup clash with Hereford United:

"We were doing all the pressing trying to make the game happen. They worked really hard and credit to my players for that, but after 25 minutes we stopped doing what had got us our lead and conceded a really poor goal on our part. In the second half we didn't really play with enough quality, enough tempo or enough pace and energy to create enough chances, and we didn't force their keeper into saves. We are frustrated and have a disappointed dressing room but we're still in it.

I thought we started really well. We had a couple of chances and a couple of balls put into the box and had a good bit of play. Marlon (Pack) slotted in a lovely pass and Jermain (McGlashan) fed in Shaun (Harrad) for our goal but we didn't do enough of that. Shaun (Harrad) has been talking in the press and I know he will score more goals but tonight we didn't keep going for them and that was the disappointing thing.

From what I've seen of Hereford and reports I've read, they play that way and fair play to them because we do too. They've got some big strong boys and we knew it was going to be tough. No-one thought it was going to be easy but we didn't apply ourselves to the best that we could have done.

We've now got to go there and perform. Hereford are happy with themselves and quite rightly so. They played well tonight but we can play better and we have to make sure we do that next time.

We didn't deserve to lose the game but we didn't do enough to win it either and that's the disappointing thing."
