Yates: They Must Put It Right

24 December 2012

Mark Yates is looking for his Robins to bounce back from defeat this Christmas.

Mark Yates speaking to the media ahead of Boxing Day's fixture v. Wycombe (3pm):

"Managers are emotional after games and I was massively disappointed and I still am now. We've cleared the air a little and watched the DVD back. It was poor quality, poor energy and poor decision making. We got exactly what we deserved the other night and I'll be looking for the boys to put that right on Wednesday.

"I watched the game back when I got home and I had them in on Saturday morning by myself apart from Scott Brown who had a day off like he deserved. We watched the game and the drivel that they gave us. The performance they gave us was pretty pathetic and I think a few of them were pretty embarrased by watching the DVD. I want them on my side and I need them to go again, which they will, but sometimes they must accept me saying exactly what I think. They really did need to see that again. We trained after watching it and we are back to square one knowing we are sat in a healthy position and we can get back to work preparing for Wycombe.

"21 other clubs would love to be in our position but we know there is still more to come from this group of players. We need more consistency, more performance and hopefully more wins.

"I could make 9 changes or I could make 7 but I have a good idea of where I'm going. After the DVD I asked the question as to who deserved to play and I didn't get many responses. I trust them but we've let ourselves down over the last few away performance. Whatever I do, no one can have any arguments with the team I pick and, whoever isn't involved, needs to get on with it and take their opportunity when it comes.

"Wycombe have picked up and they have always had some good players and they are a decent side. My concern is my team performing though and making sure we turn up. We've got one of the best records at home if not the best so we'll be aiming to maintain that but we have a to be better than we were on Friday."
