Yates: Responded In The Right Way

26 December 2012

Mark Yates was delighted with the reaction shown by his players to win comfortably this afternoon.

Mark Yates speaking to the media following the Boxing Day victory over Wycombe Wanderers:

"More than anything else today, it was all about the boys putting a few things right. We have had a tough couple of days and the boys have responded in the right way. I knew they would.

"It's not about individuals; it's about the team and that was definitely the case today. I could have made a lot more changes but they have all responded well and they have shown grit, determination and what it takes to win a game. Today there was aggression, tempo and more pushing in the first two minutes than the entire 95 minutes on Friday. When we play like that we look a half decent team.

"I think we started quite well in the first half and I think Russell Penn really does epitomise what I wanted in my team today. I don't want to go to high from being so low but Jeff's goal really pleased me because it was a good move and Darryl's goal was great too. The front two caused them all sorts of problems today. Unfortunately it appears that Zebs and Shaun Harrad are the fall guys from Friday but they're not. I have four good strikers, five if I want to throw Mo up there but I wanted to freshen it up.

"We got turned over by Bristol Rovers last season and we know that they will be well organised and arrive with a gameplan. As long as we perform with the same energy and purpose as we did today then we will be fine. The things we didn't do well last Friday, we turned it round and did them very well today."
