Yates: Fantastic Comeback

8 December 2012

Mark Yates prases his team's spirit as they come back from 2-0 down to beat Northampton.

Mark Yates speaking to the media following the 3-2 victory over Northampton:

"It was a fantastic comeback by the lads today. We started awfully and I thought I had picked the wrong team after working on certain things for a few days but it could have been out of the window after 13 minutes. Credit to the players because they turned it around and they got stuck in.

"It was always going to be Keith Lowe in there today and I wanted three combative, quality midfielders with energy and I thought we had that. The players were brilliant and I thought we got what we deserved in the end.

"I wanted a nice solid triangle between the two defenders and a player shielding them to protect them. I was asking Neil after 13 minutes whether I needed to make changes early but the boys turned it round and they manned up. We were outfought for 15 minutes but I don't know what sparked them off because they began to compete and all of a sudden we looked a different side. We scored two good goals quickly and the second half was tough because they played to their strengths and they are very good at what they do. We didn't deal with the long throw-in for the first goal but we learnt from it.

"We played some really good football inbetween having to defend for our lives but Zebs needed to put in a good performance and I think he did. We worked hard on creating chances with the front five and it was good to see people chipping in with goals. The winning goal was a good move on the break. Darryl scored four against Northampton last season and Jeff had a knock so our options were always going to be Darryl and Mo. It was a great finish and I had a chat with Darryl yesterday - he got his rewards for the hard work he has been putting in recently. It's frustrating for people when they aren't playing regular football like they want to but I want to keep Darryl around and perhaps coming back here is what he needed and hopefully he can kick on now.

"It's three good points and good boost of confidence. Tuesday is a big game and hopefully we can be a lot better than we were on Monday."
