Match Report: Robins 1-2 Alvechurch

.

5 November 2022

The Robins were knocked out of the FA Cup despite a Ryan Jackson goal as Alvechurch's Danny Waldon scores in both halves.

The eighth-tier side had the opening opportunity of the match, Tyrell Skeen-Hamilton firing a central free-kick over the bar from 25 yards out.

Moments later, the first chance for the Robins fell to James Olayinka, who picked the ball up 30 yards from goal, but his curled shot from the edge of the box deflected wide for a corner.

Olayinka came close again, Ryan Broom making space for himself down the right channel, pulled his cross back to Olayinka on the penalty spot, whose shot went past the right post.

Cheltenham kept the pressure on the visitor’s goal, Caleb Taylor forcing ‘keeper Daniel Jezeph into a diving save to his right with a header from close range.

Alvechurch took the lead against the run of play, Waldron picking up the loose ball before taking on a defender on the edge of the box and slotting the ball past Southwood.

Wade Elliott was forced into a change after half an hour, with the injured Ben Williams having to be replaced by Dan Nlundulu. The striker’s presence was quickly felt as his footwork won a corner resulting in another Taylor header just missing the goal.

The substitute was then inches away from connecting with a well created George Lloyd shot with three minutes to go in the half.

It was Olayinka again who had the next Robins chance. Broom setting the midfielder up from close range, but was denied again by a save from the inspiring Jezeph.

Alvechurch and Waldron got their second of the game early in the second half. The forward bundling the ball over the line after it rebounded off the post from Concannon shot on the top of the box.

The two goal deficit was short lived as Ryan Jackson replied moments later. A cross from the left evaded all in the box, with the wing-back firing in a volley into the far bottom corner of the goal from eight yards out.

In the pursuit of the equaliser, Alfie May and Christian Norton were brought onto the pitch. The latter instantly finding space down the right, setting up Broom, but the Welshman fired his shot over the bar.

The Robins had seemingly equalised when Norton headed in Taylor’s ball back across the goal from close range. However neither the referee or linesman deemed the ball crossed the line.

The Robins ended the game with 10 men, as goal scorer Jackson had to be removed due to injury.

Match Pack: Alvechurch (H)

2 November 2022

Cheltenham Town host Southern League Premier Division Central side Alvechurch on Saturday in the First Round of the FA Cup.

Alvechurch, the lowest ranked side left in the competition, have already sold out their full allocation of over 1,400 seats, so make sure to grab your tickets in advance of our opening round of the FA Cup.

The non-league side are currently 19th in the Southern Central Premier with 11 points, however many teams have played up to four games more than the Church.

Tickets are still available for the weekend's match at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium, and you can purchase them online. Season tickets are invalid for cup competitions, and you will need to purchase a ticket for the game.

We have reduced all ticket prices when purchased in advance. £12 Adults, £6 senior, studen and U-18, and £1 for U-14 tickets.

Wade Elliott’s men come into the tie having picked up four points from the last two games, with a win against Morecambe and a draw with MK Dons, picking up two clean sheets in the process.

As for Alvechurch, they come into the game on an impressive run of form, winning three of their last four games.

“It's a game that we want to win and a competition we'd like to progress in,” said Elliott ahead of the tie.

“We'll prepare for them to be at their best and play above themselves anyway. We've been there. We played Man City at home, and it focuses the players and focuses minds. It'll be a big occasion for Alvechurch. To take 1,500 fans and they are a hybrid model, so a lot of their lads are full-time, young, decent players who for whatever reason have fallen out of the system and are looking to climb their way back into the league.”

If you are buying tickets in person, you can use cash or card from the sales point in the main car park. There will be sales for home fans on the day.

Fans should arrive early to avoid queues, and any ticket changes should be made a day in advance due to the time it takes to alter tickets.

You can find the details to get to the Completely-Suzuki Stadium down below.

You can listen to the match through iFollow, but only if you have purchased a season or montly iFollow Audio Pass. A single match pass will not be available for Saturday's game.

The gates will open from 1:45PM to allow stewards and staff additional training time on the new ticketing system.

Have a look out for our matchday programme, which can be found around the ground before kick-off. Saturday's addition will commemorate our meeting with Alvechurch in the 1984-85 season.

There will be a temporary road closure immediately after the match in order to manage coaches departing and for pedestrians to safely exit the stadium.

On arrival and around the ground, you will see our new food pods. These are cashless, and only card payments are accepted.

Check out our new 2022/23 Training Kit and Leisure Wear, available now from the club shop and online.

We have a new information hut at the ground, which is run by our supporter liason and disability assistance team. It's located in the car park on the right hand side as you enter, between the ticket collection booth and “Hungry Robins” outlet.  The hut bears the logos of the Community Trust, Robins Trust, and Proud Robins, reflecting that we are all working together to support the club, represent fans and celebrate inclusion and diversity.

We aim to man the hut from around 1PM until just before kick-off on matchdays, and support with any disability assistance, provide access to free DAB radios, ear defenders and sensory packs, as well as taking bookings for our halftime cross bar challenge.

Surf & Fries has now been moved into the car park beside the information hut, and will remain there for the rest of the 2022/23 season, with new food vendors implemented behind the Optimisng IT Stand in it's place.

A new set of actions will be implemented across all English football leagues for the 2022/23 season and will be backed by the Football Supporters’ Association. They will target activity such as entering the pitch without permission, carrying or using smoke bombs or pyrotechnics and throwing objects - as well as drug use and discriminatory behaviour.
