Combative midfielder Russell Penn signed for the Robins in the summer of 2011 after turning down the opportunity of a new contract with Burton Albion. He made his competitive debut on the opening day of the 2011-12 season as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Gillingham.
Originally a trainee with Birmingham City and later Kidderminster, Penn moved to Scunthorpe United in search of first team football but soon returned to the Harriers where he became an integral part of their midfield. Russell made 178 appearances and scored 26 goals during his time at Aggborough.
Russell, who has also represented the England 'C' team, became Burton Albion's record signing when he moved for an undisclosed fee back in July 2009 and made 89 appearances with seven goals during his time at the Pirelli Stadium.
