Cheltenham Town signed box-to-box midfielder Darren Carter on an initial six month deal on Thursday 23 August 2012.
Darren began his career with the Blues, rising up through their youth ranks, and he made his debut for the club at the age of 18 in a 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion. He made over 40 appearances for the club and enjoyed a loan spell with Sunderland before moving to West Brom for a reported £1.5 million. His first goal for the Baggies came in a 2-1 win over Arsenal and that strike won him the club's goal of the season award. He signed for Preston in 2007 and made his debut in a 0-0 draw against Norwich City. Darren found himself transfer listed unfortunately and soon found himself out on loan to Millwall. He was released by Preston and soon suffered a freak groin injury whilst on trial with Brighton and the midfielder has been looking to get himself settled ever since.
Darren was linked with moves to Birmingham City and Walsall this summer but he has opted to join the Robins on a short term deal before renewing that contract until the end of the 2012-13 campaign.
