Powerful striker Amari Morgan-Smith signed a one-year deal with Cheltenham Town in June 2015 following his departure from SkyBet League One side Oldham Athletic.
After progressing through the youth ranks at his hometown club Wolverhampton Wanderers, the 6-foot forward made his professional debut for Stockport County, before enjoying a prolific two-year spell with Ilkeston Town.
Morgan-Smith’s goal scoring form was enough to persuade Luton Town to hand him a deal, and he went on to score 14 goals in 37 appearances at Kenilworth Road, before switching to Vanarama National League side Macclesfield Town.
From here, the 26-year-old moved to Kidderminster Harriers, where he played alongside Cheltenham Town men Lee Vaughan and Kyle Storer, as the Aggborough-outfit recorded a second-place National League finish in the 2012/13 season.
Gary Johnson’s son Lee brought Morgan-Smith to Boundary Park in June 2014, and he went on to score against Swindon Town and Notts County in an injury-hit season. A glowing recommendation from the now Barnsley boss was enough to persuade his father to hand the former England C international a contract at the LCI Rail Stadium.
