UPDATED 03:00 22nd July 2014 Trevor Carson signed for the Robins in the summer of 2014 following his departure from Bury. Carson began his playing career as a product of the Sunderland Academy and signed professional terms in the 2004-05 campaign but he never made a senior appearance for the top flight club. Whilst with the Black Cats he had loan spells in the Football League with clubs such as Chesterfield, Lincoln, Brentford, Hull and Bury before opting to sign for the latter on permanent terms in May 2012. The 26-year-old made 50 appearances for the Shakers during his two years with the club but he spent the majority of last season on loan with Portsmouth where he was their number one at Fratton Park. He made 40 appearances for Pompey before being released from Gigg Lane. Carson is also a former Northern Ireland B and U21 international but he has recently been on the bench for the senior team's friendly matches versus Uruguay and Chile.
