Match pack: Swindon Town (A)

21 December 2018

The Robins make the short 30-mile journey to Wiltshire to the Energy Check County Ground on Saturday to take on Swindon Town for the club’s final away fixture of 2018.

Kick-off is at 3pm as Michael Duff looks to build on the points recently picked up from a win over Grimsby and draw last weekend at Port Vale.

The turnaround in form and performances since Duff’s appointment see the squad make the journey high on confidence ahead of a festive schedule of four games in 11 days that involves an eye-catching list of high-profile fixtures.

Tickets are available to buy on the day at the County Ground.

Team news

Tom Field and Jacob Maddox continue to miss out through injury, as do longer term absentees Sean Long and Kevin Dawson.

Front man Tyrone Barnett is back and available for selection after he was unable to play last weekend against his parent club.

Watch what boss Michael Duff had to say ahead of Saturday’s game:

Opposition

It’s over a month now since Swindon took the decision to appoint Richie Wellens as manager, replacing Phil Brown in the role at the Energy Check County Ground, and since his appointment in mid-November they have won three and lost three in League Two.

As a result they sit 13th in the division heading into the weekend – four points off the play-offs after 22 matches where they’ve amassed 30 points.

Their squad features two-ex Robins, including midfielder Jermaine McGlashan and former loanee forward Elijah Adebayo who is among their leading goal scorers with five goals to his name so far.

The highly experienced Matty Taylor will be one to watch, as will be former QPR midfielder Michael Doughty who is their leading marksman. The pace of Kaiyne Woolery will also offer a threat – Swindon paid £350,000 to sign the 23-year-old in August 2017 from Wigan.

Last meeting

The last time the two clubs met was at the County Ground in March last season. Mo Eisa netted a brace to help the Robins to a memorable 3-0 win – the club’s equal biggest away win at Swindon.

Jake Andrews also scored with a terrific free kick to get the goal scoring underway just before half time.

Revisit the highlights from that victory in March:

Overall, the Robins record over Swindon in all competitions is a strong one. The club have recorded eight wins over Saturday’s opponents, losing just twice and drawing a couple of times too.
