Paul is a former Stoke City, Rochdale and Swansea City striker who joined the Robins for a £25,000 fee in January 2007.
A tall and hard-working forward player, Paul was born in County Durham and began his career as a trainee with Middlesbrough. He had a loan spell with Hartlepool United before moving south to join Stoke City.
After a loan spell with Cambridge United he joined Rochdale for a club record £100,000 fee in 2001. It was while at Rochdale that Connor made the first of several appearances as an opposition player against Cheltenham.
His form for Rochdale earned him a move to Swansea City and he helped the Swans to achieve promotion from League Two in their last season at Vetch Field. His 13 goals in all competitions that season included one against Cheltenham Town at Whaddon Road in Swansea's 3-1 FA Cup first round win that season.
He moved to Leyton Orient for a £40,000 fee in January last year and helped the East London club to automatic promotion from League Two. He scored seven goals from 20 starts and 14 substitute appearances for the Os prior to joining Cheltenham in the January 2007 transfer window. He knocked in one goal for the Robins during the remainder of that season, ironically the winner against one of his old clubs, Swansea City
During the 2007-2008 campaign Paul was often used in the lone striker role and demonstrated some fantastic battling performances. When not in the starting line-up he would be utilised from the bench attempting to make a late impact in the game. Often missing out on the full credit he deserved, Paul made many vital contributions over the course of the season which often resulted in goals for other players. He also popped up to bang in four crucial strikes, none more important than the 85th minute winner against Doncaster Rovers that secured League One status for a third consecutive term.
