Kyle Haynes became the youngest player to appear for Cheltenham Town in the Football League when he went on as a substitute 10 minutes from the end of the 1-1 draw against Oldham Athletic in March 2009 at the age of 17 years, two months and 26 days.
Kyle, from Wolverhampton, spent time as a junior with Birmingham City before being released in 2008. He was picked up by the Cheltenham Town Centre of Excellence and became the only member of the 2008 Scholarship intake to be signed from outside the club.
He made rapid progress in the youth team operating right across the defence and is used most often at right-back.
Following the arrival of Martin Allen as manager the club's reserve team was filled with young players and Kyle grabbed his chance to impress. His performances for the second team earned him a place in the first team squad and when veteran left-back Alan Wright was forced off with an injury in the Oldham match, Kyle (who was nearly 20 years his junior at the time) went on for his first taste of Football League action.
