Andy is a young right-back or midfielder who joined the Cheltenham Town Centre of Excellence in 2003 and signed his first professional contract with the club the following year.
Despite some highly consistent and hard-working performances for the reserve team, whom he has helped to win the Pontins Holidays Combination Wales and West Division two seasons running, Andy has faced a patient wait for a regular first team place due to the consistent form of the veteran Jerry Gill.
As a youngster he spent a year with Coventry City and also had trials with Crewe Alexandra. He also played for his local club Stratford Town in the Midland Alliance League and graduated from the youth team to play first team football at the age of 17.
He was alerted to Cheltenham Town who played him initially as a central midfielder in the youth squad before converting him to play at right-back.
Andy's contract was extended in the summer of 2006 having made his first team debut on the final day of the 2005-06 season at Mansfield Town, the 5-0 victory being the Robins' record Football League away win.
His big break came right at the start of the 2007-08 campaign when injuries propelled him into the first team as a 'makeshift' central defender. Andy took to the role immediately and become an instant favourite with the fans. He managed 25 first team starts during a challenging season in League One and was a member of the back four that conceded only one goal in six games during January and February 2008.
As a result he was voted the 2007-08 'Young player of the Year' and in May 2008 signed a new two year contract with the club.
The 2008/09 campaign created opportunities for Andy to establish himself a regular place in the first team. His versatility meant he could slot into any of the back four positions and towards the end of the season he made several starts in the centre of midfield. Andy also score his first senior goal for the side in the 3-3 draw at Brighton.
