Former Fulham and Leicester City front man Elvis Hammond initially joined Cheltenham Town during November 2008 on a short term contract. During January 2009 he extended that contract by agreeing to stay for a further 18 months.
Elvis was born in Accra, the capital of Ghana, but moved to London at the age of six and began his career with Fulham's Academy set-up.
He made his Fulham debut in 2000 and went on to make 13 first team appearances for the Cottagers, also gaining experience on loan at Bristol Rovers, but suffered an injury towards the end of the 2002-2003 season.
The striker began the following campaign on loan at Norwich City and finished it in Holland with top division side RBC Roosendaal. A £225,000 move to Leicester City followed in summer 2005 and Elvis played under Martin Allen for a brief time before an ankle injury struck. He was released by Leicester at the end of the 2007/08 season.
Elvis has a reputation as a very quick player, who makes intelligent runs across the forward line, and his form at Leicester earned him a call-up to the Ghana international squad in 2006. He played in a warm-up game against a league side then won a full cap in a match against Mexico in March that year.
Towards the end of the 2008/09 campaign Elvis was putting in some excellent performances for the Robins, but during April 2009 opted to undergo some corrective surgery in order that he could hopefully start the 2009/10 season fully fit.
