Cheltenham Town were defeated 1-0 here at the Abbey Business Stadium today due to a first half penalty from Barry Conlon.

Wade Small had been brought down in the box after being sandwiched by Aaron Lescott and Ashley Eastham but the Robins deserved something following a good second half. The much improved second half didn't produce a Cheltenham goal however and on a day where they hit the cross bar three times the Robins will now have to focus on Burton Albion next weekend.

Mark Yates made four changes to his squad today with new loan signings Medy Elito and Aaron Lescott making their debuts in front of the Robins home crowd. Justin Richards and Michael Townsend (groin) also returned to the squad at the expense of Andy Gallinagh and Julian Alsop who both dropped to the bench.

6: First real attack of the game fell to Chesterfield following a Simon Whaley low cross across goal but the Spireites were unable to capitalise.

9: Medy Elito will provide good width for Cheltenham and the Robins are looking to use that width as much as they can.

20: Cheltenham should have been one up. Ridley's throw was flicked on by Barry Hayles but Justin Richard's hooked finish clipped the cross bar.

27: Wade Small broke following a Chesterfield clearance and tested the pace of Low and Ridley. Low did have a tug on Small and was lucky the striker didn't go down. Small eventually lost possession thanks to a Ridley tackle. Good counter from Chesterfield.

30: Great play from Hayles down the right. The veteran threaded a pass through to Thornhill whose flick left Josh Low with an opportunity at goal but a last ditch deflection off Allott sent the ball wide.

35: Mistake from Aaron Lescott. He gave possession away to Adam Rundle but the Spireites midfielder struck his effort wide of the far post.

36: Ridley freekick was sent deep into the opposition area. Hayles got his head onto it for a decent effort but the ball just creeped wide.

40 GOAL: Chesterfield took the lead through a Barry Conlon penalty. Wade Small was bundled over by both Eastham and Lescott.

43: Great technical play from Rundle in Cheltenham's area. His final effort drifted wide of Brown's post but Cheltenham playing a dangerous game.

Half Time: Robins 0-1 Chesterfield

48: Tremendous effort from Thornhill. Elito outpaced Goodall on the left wing and whipped in a cross which found it's way to the Forest loanee. His left footed strike crashed against the crossbar but a good start to the second half from the Robins.

52: Thornhill had the chance to shoot at goal following a good ball into the area from Pook but the ball became stuck under his feet. Good play from Cheltenham Town.

59: Medy Elito is having a very good game. Goodall is having a nightmare dealing with his pace.

63 SUBSTITUTION: Julian Alsop was subbed on to replace Barry Hayles. Martin Devaney was in the crowd today - perhaps to witness a record being broken?

64: Great Whaley strike from a 30 yard freekick. It was a difficult strike to judge but Brown got down well.

66: Lescott and Low are linking up well on the right hand side. After some clever play Low whipped in a good cross but Richards' headered effort was weak and fell into the arms of Lee.

71: Simon Whaley tested Scott Brown once again. He teased the ball around with some good footwork and forced Brown into a good diving save with a 20 hard strike.

72: A great ball over to the right wing from Thornhill stretched the Chesterfield defence. Richards pulled the ball back to Pook but his low drive was saved by Tommy Lee.

76: SUBSTITUTION: Chesterfield made their first change with Scott Boden replacing Wade Small

77: Townsend gifted sub Scott Boden a shot at goal when he mis-headered a long clearance. The shot was pulled wide of the near post.

82 SUBSTITUTION: Mark Yates brought on Marley Watkins for Lee Ridley.

83: Great play down the left from Low and Elito. The Colchester youngster sent a good cross in and Alsop's header crashed against the cross bar. Thornhill pulled the rebound wide.

86: Elito was upended on the edge of the box but Thornhill's effort was poor and went straight into the wall. Richards had a chance to score just after the set piece but his effort was poor and proved comfortable for Tommy Lee.

88: Chesterfield's star man Simon Whaley had another effort on goal. He struck the ball from just outside the area but effort went just high of the goal.

90 SUBSTITUTION: Gary Madine joined the action at the expense of Barry Conlon.
