Cheltenham Town battled their way to a point here tonight but it could have been so different if the woodwork hadn't denied them on two occasions.
Both Josh Low and Dave Bird struck the woodwork in a game that the Robins bossed for the majority but Mark Yates will be happy with what was another strong defensive performance.
The Robins made four changes to the starting line-up ahead of this evening's clash with Shrewsbury Town with both Michael Townsend and Matt Thornhill missing out because of injury. Townsend was replaced with Blackpool loanee Ashley Eastham and Andy Gallinagh filled in for the injured Thornhill. Danny Andrew also came back into the squad at left back instead of Lee Ridley and Alsop dropped to the bench with Hayles now leading the line.
5: Cheltenham opened the attacking play with a close range freekick given after a Cansdell-Sheriff handball. Danny Andrew's strike could only slam into the Shrewsbury wall though.
8: Josh Low sent a warning shot across Shrewsbury's goal with a decent effort from 20 yards. The strike swept past the far post but good attacking intentions from Cheltenham.
12: Right from the off you can see that Shrewsbury are a good passing side and they have whipped in a few dangerous crosses so far but the Robins defence have been equal so far.
16: Superb steal of possession from Elito in the Shrewsbury area. He passed a simple ball back to Justin Richards but the top scorer's effort was saved low by Button.
22: A Shrewsbury corner gave Langmead an opportunity to climb above the Robins defence and head in an effort but the ball went over the crossbar.
29: Good chance for the Robins. Gallinagh looped a header towards the danger area and some good control and a decent pass from Richards found Hayles who twisted and turned but his final effort trickled just wide.
33: Good play from Justin Richards who got onto a long ball from Scott Brown. He forced his way into the box but Button was equal to his powerful effort.
42: Shrewsbury had a chance from a decent looking freekick position just outside of the area. Neal looped the ball in but Gallinagh headered it clear. Simpson did have an effort following the clearance but it cleared the whole stand.
Half Time: Shrews 0-0 Robins
52: Dave Bird struck the crossbar. Medy Elito won the freekick on the edge of the box and Bird's set piece slammed against the crossbar.
58: What an opportunity for Cheltenham. Some great play from Low through the middle of park saw his through ball reach Richards but the striker couldn't capitalise on the one on one opportunity and the keeper cleared the ball.
59: Cheltenham are turning up the heat. Josh Low just struck the post from 20 yards with a superb drive and was unlucky to see it bounce away from goal. Medy Elito followed that attempt up a few minutes later with a drive over the crossbar.
62 DOUBLE SUBSTITUTION: Steve Leslie came on for Lewis Neal and Van Den Broek replaced Jake Simpson.
65: Van Den Broek just broke down the right wing with great speed and whipped in a great cross for Cureton at the backpost but Gallinagh was there to block the effort and the ball went out of play off Cureton.
72: Every Cheltenham Town opportunity is going through Josh Low at the moment. He is having a very good game. A scramble in the Shrewsbury area was created by the big right winger but Hayles couldn't get the strike in at goal.
75 SUBSTITUTION: Julian Alsop made his way onto the pitch to replace Barry Hayles.
77: Langmead put an excellent ball through to Cureton who finds himself yards from goal and he can't miss...but he did and it went high over the bar.
79: Shrewsbury's turn to pile the pressure on. A sequence of corners produced a number of scrambles in the box but Cheltenham came out on top every time.
81 SUBSTITUTION: Shrewsbury's new young sensation Tom Bradshaw came on in place of Hibbert.
82: Great last ditch tackle from Gallinagh stopped Van Den Broek from breaking the deadlock. The winger was steaming towards goal but Gallinagh produced a fine tackle to clear the danger.
86: Richards had the ball in the back of the net following a great run from Medy Elito who galloped from his own half but the linesman had already flagged Richards offside.
90: Medy Elito almost won it for Cheltenham! A great counter attack from Cheltenham was urged on with a superb pass from Alsop. Elito charged towards Shrewsbury's area and unleashed a shot but it flew wide of the far post.
90+2: Button mishandled a cross from Josh Low and he was lucky that there were no Robins in and around him because that would have been a goal.
90+3 BOOKING: Cansdell Sheriff was yellow carded for bringing down Elito.
