The Robins finally broke their drought of victories here at the Abbey Business Stadium with an impressive 2-0 victory over Morecambe FC. Alsop scored first to equal Martin Devaney's all time football league goal scoring record and Thornhill scored his second in three appearances.

Lee Ridley kept his place at left back despite the return of young Danny Andrew who has just finished a one match suspension. Veterans Alsop and Hayles continued their partnership up front with Matt Thornhill leading the midfield line from the front of the diamond.

The Robins were aiming to pick up their third home win of the season following a torrid run of form here at the Abbey Business Stadium. Cheltenham's away form has been very good and Mark Yates had called earlier this week for the squad to adopt their away mentality for this game.

4: First attack of the game went to Morecambe when Paul Mullin broke free for a one on one with Scott Brown but he wasted the opportunity by dragging his attempt wide of the far post.

6: A comfortable save for the Morecambe keeper following a looping header from Julian Alsop but the build-up play from Cheltenham was very good.

10: Audacious attempt from Barry Hayles as he attempts to loop a shot in from 25 yards out. It went high and wide.

11: Morecambe's Artell missed a great chance when he put a free header over the bar following a Craig Stanley free kick.

18: Artell was presented with an attempt for goal following a sloppy pass from Barry Hayles. The defender's long shot proved a comfortable save for Scott Brown though.

22: Clash of heads between Lee Ridley and Garry Hunter meant a stoppage in play but both players were fine following treatment.

28: Brilliant move from Cheltenham which was unfortunately thwarted by Barry Roche. Barry Hayles had brought the ball under control and a clever pass released Thornhill whose through ball fell to Michael Pook. Pook's angled strike was a good one but it brought out the best in Morecambe's keeper.

32: The Robins started to force a few Morecambe errors in the backline with a good spell of pressure.

33 GOAL: Alsop equalled Cheltenham's all-time Football League goal scoring record of 38 with a powerful header into the back of the net following a superb corner from Dave Bird. Outstanding spell of pressure from the Robins.

40: Barry Hayles caused trouble once again in the Morecambe area. He picked up on a defensive slip-up and almost played in Matt Thornhill but the ball just slipped out of his reach.

42: A mistake by Townsend almost gifted Mullin an opportunity at goal but Dave Bird took the ball away from the striker's feet with a good sliding challenge.

45: Good effort from Morecambe's Laurence Wilson who attempted a long range drive from the left wing but it flew wide of Brown's far post.

Half Time: Robins 1-0 Morecambe

46: Bright start from Cheltenham. Thornhill attempted a swinging shot from the left but it flew wide.

47: Stewart Drummond shot straight into the arms of Brown for Morecambe's first attack of the second half.

52: Poor backpass from the Morecambe defence which allowed Barry Hayles the freedom of the area with the goalkeeper off his line. However the chance was wasted when his angled shot was carried over the crossbar.

55: Mullin headered the ball down in the area following a secent cross but Phil Jevons' overhead attempt sailed over the crossbar.

58 BOOKING: Artell is yellow carded for a cynical pull on Barry Hayles who was breaking from his own half.

59 GOAL: Matt Thornhill scored his second goal in three appearances to put a shine on his good performance. Bird's cross was met by the head of Alsop and Thornhill, who reacted quickly to the assist, calmly placed the ball in the bottom right hand corner to put Cheltenham 2-0 up.

61 SUBSTITUTION: Morecambe make their first substitution of the game with Mark Duffy replacing Craig Stanley.

63: Substitute Mark Duffy made his first contribution of the match with a drive from the corner of the area but his attempt was wide of Brown's near post.

68: Great save by Brown denied Morecambe a goal. A long throw was driven in and, despite a blatant push on Gallinagh, a chance was forged for Duffy but Brown was equal to it as he rushed out.

77: Cheltenham were controlling the game at this point with a number of opportunities being carved out thanks to the midfield display.

78: Great through ball from the impressive Matt Thornhill released Barry Hayles but the veteran pulled his shot wide of the far post and the chance to go 3 up is missed.

78 SUBSTITUTION: Mullin is replaced by Wayne Curtis.

81: Another great move from Cheltenham ended with a very high shot from Josh Low. Before that Alsop had just missed a header from a Thornhill cross.

81 DOUBLE SUBSTITUTION: Justin Richards came on for Barry Hayles. Emmanuel Panther was Morecambe's third substitution replacing Laurence Wilson.

86 SUBSTITUTION: Elvis Hammond replaced record equalling Julian Alsop.

86: A strike from Pook forced a low save from Roche following some neat play by Justin Richards.

87: SUBSTITUTION: David Hutton becomes Yates' third change coming on for man of the match Matt Thornhill.

90+4: Hutton and Hammond both broke on the shaky Morecambe defence but Hutton's supply was weak and Hammond could only steer wide.

90+4: Panther attempted a long range shot but his effort was an easy save for Scott Brown.
