Cheltenham Town registered only their third win on the road this term with this impressive victory at Dagenham and Redbridge's Victoria Road ground this afternoon.

Under Martin Allen the Robins scraped league successes at Rochdale and Bury, arguably against the run of play but this was altogether far more impressive, dominating fourth-placed Dagenham and Redbridge from start to finish.

Justin Richards provided the first goal of the Mark Yates era, heading home Julian Alsop's fantastic cross on the stroke of half time to register his seventh of the campaign.

It was no more than Yates' side deserved after an impressive first half performance despite losing Lee Ridley to injury inside 20 minutes.

Josh Low made it two with 24 minutes to play, slotting home his first league goal for the club to seal the win to finally give the noisy travelling supporters something to smile about.

This was the first time a Cheltenham Town side had taken on Dagenham and Redbridge away from home, and their first visit to this ground since Lindsay Parsons steered his side to a dramatic 2-1 GM Vauxhall Conference victory back in September 1991.

The match was against Redbridge Forest on that occasion, who went on to win 7-0 at Whaddon Road later that season before merging with Dagenham the following year.

TEAM NEWS: Cheltenham Town boss Mark Yates made two changes to the side which slipped to defeat on Boxing Day. Michael Pook was dropped to the bench with Andy Gallinagh restored to the defensive point of a midfield diamond, spearheaded by David Hutton. Josh Low took up a role on the left and Joss Labadie on the right.

Alsop came in to replace Barry Hayles, who sat this one out after picking up his fifth booking of the campaign in the 1-0 defeat by AFC Bournemouth. Therefore young striker Jake Lee was been promoted to bench for this afternoon's match at Victoria Park.

Second minute: Cheltenham made a bright start, Labadie forcing an early corner with an angled drive from the corner of the box. David Hutton whipped it in from the right and Andy Gallinagh's headed against the crossbar before it was cleared to safety.

10: Dagenham responded with some pressure from a couple of corners, the first of which was cleared by Alsop and the second comfortably held by Scott Brown.

14: A mistake by David Pipe handed the home side their first real chance of the game with 14 minutes played. The right back made a hash of dealing with Seth Ofori-Twumasi's lofted ball in, but Danny Green curled it a foot high and wide of the target from 20 yards.

16: Ofori-Twumasi warmed the palms of Scott Brown a couple of minutes later with a strike from all of 30 yards.

18 SUBSTITUTION: Yates' plans were dealt a blow when Lee Ridley picked up what appeared to be a re-occurrence of a calf injury with only 18 minutes on the clock and was replaced by Michael Pook. Low dropped back to left back and Pook took up position on the left of the midfield diamond.

27: Cheltenham fashioned a great opportunity mid-way through the first half after David Pipe had launched a long throw into the box from the right touchline. Alsop glanced a header into the path of substitute Pook but the former Swindon man didn't get enough on it to properly test goalkeeper Tony Brown, who dropped to his right to save his half volley.

40: A decent Dagenham move five minutes before the break resulted in Green trying his luck from 20 yards, but Brown was equal to the task.

41: Cheltenham were fortunate to escape punishment when Paul Benson, the man who claimed his side's goal at the Abbey Business Stadium back in August, was allowed a free header inside the box but luckily for Brown, it was straight at him after Green had crossed from the left.

43: Gallinagh and Pook released long range efforts with half time approaching, but Roberts kept both out.

45+1: Cheltenham broke down the left a minute into first half injury time, Alsop playing in Low down the wing who in turn found Richards in the penalty area with his back to goal. The striker swivelled but placed his shot wide.

47 GOAL: Dagenham and Redbridge 0-1 Cheltenham Town
Richards broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time after Hutton had slipped a ball down the right to Alsop. The big man, who usually thrives on deliveries from the flanks, whipped in a terrific ball to the far post where the striker arrived to head past Roberts to notch his seventh of the season.

HALF TIME: 0-1

51: Gallinagh burst down the middle to create another chance for Richards shortly after the turnaround, but this time striker placed his side footer the wrong side of the right post from 16 yards.

53: Brown did well to prevent Ofori-Twumasi scoring from close-range after John Scott provided a low ball from the right.

54 SUBSTITUTION: David Bird replaced Labadie nine minutes after the re-start to fill the role on the right of midfield.

56: Bird's first contribution was to centre for Alsop from the left-hand side, and the big man called Richards into a fingertip save with a looping header from eight yards.

57 BOOKING: Gallinagh went into the book for a foul on Scott in midfield as Dagenham counter-attacked down the Cheltenham right.

63 SUBSTITUTION: Former Barnet winger Darren Currie came on for John Nurse shortly after the hour mark.

66 GOAL: Dagenham and Redbridge 0-2 Cheltenham Town
The home side had begun to put together some meaningful pressure when Cheltenham broke with devastating effect through Hutton down the left. Low had broken free down the middle and held his run before the former Spurs wingers released him, and the makeshift left back carried it to the edge of the box before expertly chipping Roberts to put his side two goals clear.

68: Pipe came to Cheltenham's rescue a couple of minutes after the goal after Dagenham striker Scott had beaten Brown with a low shot from an angle down the inside right channel. However the Bristol Rovers loanee was on hand to scoop the effort clear off the line.

73 BOOKING: Goalscorer Low was harshly cautioned for a tangle of legs down the Dagenham right with Green, who sent in the free-kick himself, but Benson should have done better at the far post. He will now miss the Bradford City game on Saturday.

75 SUBSTITUTION: That was Green's last action, replaced by Wesley Thomas with quarter of an hour remaining.

86 SUBSTITUTION: Kyle Haynes replaced Pipe for the final moments of the match.

87 BOOKING: Hutton went into the book for kicking the ball away wityh three minutes remaining.

90+3: Eastham almost provided the perfect ending, arrowing a shot wide of the left upright from 25 yards.
