Battling Cheltenham Town earned themselves a valuable point in the fight to improve their Coca-Cola League One position with a late goal from Gavin Caines.
A first half goal from former Reading and Sheffield Wednesday striker Lloyd Owusu looked likely to consign the Robins to another defeat; but there was no lack of effort from the Robins even if the finesse to create clear cut scoring chances was missing.
Cheltenham deserved a draw, certainly on the strength of their second half performance, and if nothing else this result and the show of determination that earned it, should help to build confidence in a squad looking dangerously lacking in this department.
The Cheltenham team featured two changes to the starting line-up from Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Walsall. Gavin Caines replaced the unwell Michael Townsend and Ashley Vincent returned to the starting line-up in place of Craig Reid. Vincent started wide on the left with Damian Spencer pushed up front alongside Paul Connor.
Cheltenham made a lively start with Spencer making his presence felt in the opening stages.
The big man saw an early 20-yard drive blocked by Yeovil defender Nathan Jones. He then flicked a long ball into the box to former Yeovil player Andy Lindegaard who, stretching, was unable to make decisive contact with the ball deep inside the penalty area.
Caines headed wide from a Lindegaard corner but Yeovil midfielder Matt Rose had his team's first chance in the 14th minute, hitting one wide from long distance.
The middle part of the first half was a scrappy affair with neither side able to impose themselves on the contest or produce anything in the way of flowing football.
Jerry Gill went into referee Carl Boyeson's book for a foul on Paul Warne but a scrappy period of play ended with a scrappy goal on 31 minutes.
Terry Skiverton won a header 20 yards from goal that gave Richie Jones the chance to cross from the right. Caines intercepted the cross but was unable to deal with it decisively and the ball ran free for Lloyd Owusu to poke past a stranded Shane Higgs from close in.
James Walker, a player like Cheltenham's Dean Sinclair signed on loan from Charlton Athletic, fired a shot over the bar after a strong solo run but a set piece appeared Cheltenham's best chance of a goal and Spencer headed wide from a driven Alan Wright free-kick just before the half-time break.
Yeovil were forced to replace the injured Rose with Justin Cochrane three minutes into the second half and the Glovers had barely had the chance to re-organise themselves before Spencer charged through the middle of the defence and thumped a right-foot shot that missed the target but was close enough to have goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall flying to his left.
Owusu headed wide from a Nathan Jones cross but gradually Cheltenham began to play some higher tempo stuff going forward and Skiverton was booked for hacking down Vincent 30 yards from goal. The resulting free-kick was played to Caines but he drove it high over the crossbar.
Cheltenham were seeing plenty of the ball with Yeovil seemingly content to sit back and invite pressure but still there was no sign of the kind of guile or inspiration needed to open up the visiting defence.
Cheltenham piled more and more bodies into attack as the second half wore on and they were finally rewarded a minute from the end when Wright speared a diagonal ball in from the left, Caines stuck his neck out and the ball skimmed off the back of his head, possibly taking another deflection before landing in the back of the net.
