It's 10 goals in two matches now for Cheltenham Town, who followed their 6-1 FA Cup win at Kettering on Saturday with four more against Macclesfield.
The Robins created a lot of chances although once again it was two late goals that gave the scoreline its wide margin.
Cheltenham have now lost only once in their last 10 Division Three games, while Macclesfield remain rooted in the lower reached of the table having not won for eight league and cup matches.
Cheltenham were firmly in the driving seat during the first half and had 12 shots on goal to Macclesfield's one.
They gradually built up the pressure as the half went on and Macclesfield's cause was not helped by the loss of influential central defender Darren Tinson with a head injury mid-way through the half.
By then the Robins had already had three good chances with Julian Alsop heading just wide from a Lee Williams cross, Howarth driving a shot over the crossbar when a corner fell to him at the far post, and Milton placing a shot inches wide from the edge of the area.
Macclesfield struggled to come to terms with the loss of Tinson and goalkeeper Steve Wilson kept Cheltenham out with three outstanding saves in quick succession.
He saved with his legs from Alsop after Lee Howells had set him up with a strong run into the heart of the defence, then somehow clawed a close range effort from Howarth around the post following a goalmouth scramble.
Wilson pulled off a stunning double save from Tony Naylor after Alsop had headed a Howarth cross into his path, but Cheltenham got the goal their dominance deserved from the resulting corner.
Milton floated it to the edge of the six yard box where the giant Alsop jumped unmarked to head past Wilson.
Milton almost added a second moments later when Steve Hitchen fouled him 25 yards out. Referee Phil Joslin ordered the kick to be re-taken after booking Hitchen for encroachment and moving the ball forward to the edge of the area.
Naylor nudged the kick to Milton who blasted it against the post. Cheltenham goalkeeper Steve Book spent much of the first half as a spectator but he was almost called into action three minutes before the break when Macclesfield had their first chance of the game.
Hitchen found Ricky Lambert down the right and crossed for former Nottingham Forest striker Lee Glover, but he shot wide.
Cheltenham were unable to match the intensity of their first half performance after the break, although they were still the dominant side in terms of possession.
Wilson made another good save, this time from Yates after Williams had found him with another good cross from the right. The ball ran free to Alsop but this time his shot drifted wide.
But a second goal seemed almost inevitable and it duly arrived after 64 minutes when Macclesfield conceded a free-kick on the right-hand edge of the area.
Milton curled it across the box, the ball flicked off Alsop's head and fell to Michael Duff, unmarked at the far post, and he swept in a shot from eight yards.
Cheltenham were totally in control at that point but they allowed the Silkmen back into the game in the 73rd minute.
Midfielder Chris Byrne collected the ball 35 yards out and produced a neat piece of skill to dart through a gap in the Cheltenham defence and drive a low shot past Book - Macclesfield's first effort on target in the game.
The visitors went close again when Lambert headed wide from a Kevin Keen free-kick, although Macclesfield defender Paul O'Neill headed onto the top of his own crossbar from a cross by Naylor.
Howarth headed the resulting corner just over the bar but the third goal made the home supporters breathe a little more easily in the 86th minute.
Milton directed a free-kick into the penalty area and Chris Priest was the unfortunate defender who headed past his own goalkeeper.
Two minutes later Williams scored his first goal since joining Cheltenham Town on loan when he slid in at the far post to turn in a cross from substitute Neil Grayson.
