Pompey midfielder arrives on loan

Posted on: Tue 31 Aug 2010

Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates has added to his squad ahead of today's (August 31) 6pm transfer deadline with the acquisition of Portsmouth midfielder Marlon Pack.

The 19-year old Portsmouth-born player, who emerged from the youth and reserve teams at Fratton Park, has signed on a season-long loan arrangement.

Marlon Pack signed professional terms with Portsmouth back in July 2009 and has spent some time out on loan to Wycombe Wanderers and Dagenham & Redbridge. He made his football league debut for Wycombe in a narrow loss to Brighton and went on to make nine appearances for Gary Waddock's team before returning to Fratton Park.

He joined Dagenham & Redbridge on loan in January 2010 and scored his first professional goal in what was his last appearance for the Daggers in the 3-1 defeat to Port Vale.

Marlon made his debut for Pompey in their Carling Cup victory over Crystal Palace this season. He scored a penalty in the penalty shootout the confirmed Portsmouth's place in the second round. He also went on as a substitute for Portsmouth in their npower Championship match at home to Cardiff City at the weekend.

Marlon is expected to be the club's last signing before the transfer window closes. However, from seven days after the closure of the transfer window npower League clubs are permitted to sign players on emergency loans and youth loans.

Mark Yates is currently looking to secure loan moves for some of the club's younger players for them to gain additional first team experience.
