Reserves draw 1-1

Posted on: Tue 17 Aug 2010

Loan signing Robin Shroot scored his first goal for the club this afternoon in a reserve team friendly at the Bristol City training ground.

The Birmingham City youngster found the net just after an hour into the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Cheltenham fielded a line-up in the same diamond formation as the first team has used in recent games. The back four was Matt Williams, Andy Gallinagh, James Fawke and Kyle Haynes with Josh Emery deep in midfield, JJ Melligan and Marley Watkins in front of him and Robin Shroot playing just behind the front two.

"I was very pleased with the way we played," said Head of Youth John Brough, who took the team to the match although Mark Yates and Neil Howarth were also watching.

"City fielded a decent side including a couple of players with first team experience and although we started slowly, we went on to compete well during the first half, which was goalless.

"In the second half we pushed on a bit more and created a few chances. Robin took his goal well with a quick left-footed free-kick from the edge of the box that went into the bottom corner.

"The players tired a little in the last 15 minutes and City came back at us with an equaliser but overall it was an encouraging performance. Some of the players who have not started for the first team this season got a valuable 90 minutes under their belts so it was a very useful runout."
