Jeffers called up for England

Cheltenham Town's on loan striker Shaun Jeffers has been called up for the England Under-19 squad to face Slovakia next month.

The friendly match on Thursday 2 September at Crewe Alexandra will form the first warm-up match ahead of qualifying for the 2011 European Under-19 Championships.

The England manager is former Birmingham City defender and Exeter City manager Noel Blake and he has named an 18 -man squad, only six of whom play their football outside the Premier League.

Shaun Jeffers joined Cheltenham Town on loan from Coventry City just before the start of the current season. He made a substitute appearance in the opening game at Gillingham and started the midweek Carling Cup tie at Brentford, scoring Cheltenham's goal in the 2-1 defeat at Griffin Park.
