Elvis departs Robins

Posted on: Mon 08 Mar 2010

Cheltenham Town Football Club and Elvis Hammond have today agreed to go their seperate ways and the striker has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.

Former Fulham and Leicester front man Elvis initally joined Cheltenham Town during November 2008 on a short term contract. He extended that contract by a further 18 months in January 2009.

The 29 year old Ghanaian, who was signed by former manager Martin Allen, made 49 appearances during his time with the Robins and hit the back of the net ten times.

"Elvis has got a few things he needs to sort out away from football and because he lives in London it has been difficult for both Elvis and ourselves," explained Robins manager Mark Yates.

"We have come to an amicable agreement to cancel his contract, which is the best decision for both parties.

"We would like to wish Elvis all the best with everything he does in the future and thank him for the service he has given to the club."

Elvis began his career with Fulham and made a handful of appearances in the Premier League as well as loan spells at Bristol Rovers, Norwich City and RBC Roosendaal (Netherlands). He joined Leicester City for a £225,000 fee in 2005 but his time with the Foxes was disrupted by an ankle injury that required surgery and he spent over a year out of the game before being handed a contract by former Robins manager Martin Allen in November 2008. Elvis was born in Accra, the capital of Ghana, and won one full international cap for his country, against Mexico in 2006.
