A Cheltenham Town Reserve side took on Swindon Town Reserves at the Seasons training ground this afternoon.
The Robins have withdrawn from the Pontins Holidays Combination this season but will play the occasional friendly fixture instead.
Swindon's team included several players with first team experience inlcuding goalkeeper Phil Smith, midfielder Craig Easton and winger Mark Marshall. Cheltenham's team was a younger one comprising Scholars and first year professionals aside from goalkeeping coach Barry Richardson and Josh Low.
The game was played on a good early season pitch but both sides had to battle against a strong wind.
Swindon made a positive start and Billy Bodin, the son of former Swindon Town legend Paul Bodin, forced a good save from Richardson after Marshall had picked him out with a right wing cross.
Marley Watkins saw a shot from the edge of the box blocked by a defender but Swindon almost opened the scoring mid-way through the first half when a shot from Alan O'Brien was blocked by Richardson at the near post. O'Brien picked up and rebound and squared it for Marshall but his shot bounced off the inside of the far post.
Midfielder Mark Hartman saw a long-range shot deflected for a corner and Richardson made another good save, this time from Marshall, at the start of the second half as Swindon generally had the best of it.
Cheltenham's best chance arrived around the hour mark when a fine cross from Kyle Haynes was met by Jake Lee six yards out but his effort lacked the power to beat Swindon's substitute goalkeeper Jakub Jesionkowski.
Cheltenham's young side had worked very hard and done well to keep a clean sheet until the 76th minute when Swindon finally broke through.
Easton made a strong run through the middle and threaded a pass through for substitute Jordan Record, who beat Richardson with a smart left-foot finish.
Four minutes later Swindon made it 2-0 when Record again got in behind the defence. This time his shot was parried by Richardson but Abdul Said was on hand to touch in from the rebound.
