Former Cheltenham Town goalkeeper Shane Higgs has joined Leeds United on a one year contract.

The 32-year-old spent 10 years at Cheltenham Town having joined from Worcester City in 1999. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Wolves, who won promotion to the Barclays Premier League.

Shane made 275 first team appearances for the Robins and was a key member of the team which won promotion to League One in 2006 and remained at the level for the next two seasons.

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson told his club's official website: "I'm glad we've signed Shane because he will provide increased competition for places with Casper Ankergren and Alan Martin.

"Shane is a very experienced goalkeeper and he ended last season on loan at Wolves who held him in very high regard.

"He's desperate to make an impression and has the hunger and the desire to succeed at this football club.

"He is another player who we've signed - and are looking to sign - who has the experience of this division and the know-how to help us achieve our goal of promotion."

Cheltenham Town midfielder Alex Russell's transfer to Exeter City is set to be completed this week. In addition, former Cheltenham Town midfielder Ben Gill, who left the club during last season, has been on trial with Slovenian top division side NK Interblock Ljubljana.
