A poor week: Downing
Keith Downing interviewed after the Coca-Cola League One 4-0 defeat by Leicester City at Whaddon Road:
"It's been a poor week. We were well beaten this afternoon. It's left me scratching my head and I'm sure it's the same for the fans who have gone away from here today. We have the weekend to mull it over, take a look at the video and start again on Monday. You always need an answer on Monday morning and I will try to give the players one then.
"We were playing a good side with a front line of Matt Fryatt, Steve Howard, Paul Dickov and Lloyd Dyer - they have some very good players and make no bones about it, they are a Championship side, and with that firepower, they're considerable favourites to go back up.
"We did okay in the first half, and the game was quite tight. It was a poor goal to concede so early, but I think we responded really well I thought we looked good for the first five, ten minutes of the second. But the second goal deflated us, and it was a matter of goals number three and four going in and you get worried towards the end.
"It was disappointing to lose Paul (Connor) when we did and I think we missed his presence. He's usually brave and plays through so it could be something that will keep him out and we will have to monitor that through the week.
"We can better, and it's rare to get beaten like that at home. The Leicester side cost a lot of money and they have invested in a good squad so we have to put this into perspective. We'll analyse this performance and look for a response.
"I can't put a finger on why we have conceded four goals on three occasions this season. It's my job to get to the bottom of it and the players have to respond and we'll work together on the training ground and go again.
"We've worked hard on our shape and how we play so we have to look at that and rectify it."
