New Cheltenham Town signing Josh Low will start training with Cheltenham Town on Monday having successfully passed a medical examination at Whaddon Road this morning (August 30).

The 29-year old joins the Robins from Peterborough United and has signed a two year contract with Cheltenham Town making him manager Keith Downing's second permanent signing of the summer.

He was signed for Peterborough by Barry Fry but admitted that a change of management at London Road, with Darren Ferguson taking over last season, has diminshed his chances of first team football and he is keen to take on a fresh challenge with Cheltenham Town.

"From the start of pre-season it was evident at Peterborough that I wasn't going to be a regular starter there," said Josh.

"I spoke to Keith Downing and he was initially talking about a loan deal but things developed on from there. We've kept in touch over the last month or so and managed to organise a permanent move so I'm delighted."

Josh is originally from Somerset and began his career with Bristol Rovers. He subsequently played for Leyton Orient, Cardiff City and Oldham Athletic before a £165,000 move and three years at Northampton Town. A short spell with Leicester City followed before joining Peterborough, whom he helped to promotion from League Two last season. He also enjoyed promotion seasons with Cardiff City in 2000-01 and Northampton Town in 2005-06; and currently combines his football with an Open University degree in Law.

"During my career I've been lucky enough to have three promotions and be involved in five play-offs - three times to get out of League One and twice to get out of League One," he explained.

"Unfortunately I've never won any of those play-offs but the promotions have obviously been great highlights and I've been at the top end of the table most of my career.

"I know some of the Cheltenham players from my previous clubs. I was with Shane Higgs and Barry Hayles at Bristol Rovers. Craig Armstrong was also there for a short time and I know Jerry Gill from my Northampton days."

Josh, who described himself as a "traditional type winger who likes to run with the ball wide and get crosses in," has played against Cheltenham Town on several occasions dating back to his days as a trainee at Bristol Rovers when they visited for a 1997 pre-season friendly. Probably the most memorable of his appearances came in September 2003 when Northampton Town visited Whaddon Road.

"I've played at Cheltenham quite a few times and been on the end of a few defeats," explained Josh.

"I played here once with Northampton when we were two goals up and Cheltenham scored two in the last couple of minutes to win 4-3.

"But now I'm just looking to forward to playing some regular football if I can. The club seems well run, I know the ground and know that the pitch is really good as well. It seems like a nice, close knit club and I'm really looking forward to getting involved."
