Former Cardiff City winger Josh Low has agreed to join Cheltenham Town from Peterborough United.

The 29-year old former Welsh Under-21 international has signed subject to a medical and Robins boss Keith Downing expects the deal to be completed within the next 24 hours, although he will not be available for tomorrow's (August 30) match against Leicester City.

The move does not involve a transfer fee and Low has agreed a two year contract with the Robins making him the second permanent signing at the club this summer following the arrival of Alex Russell.

"I'm delighted that Josh has joined us because he is a player who still has great potential," said Robins manager Keith Downing.

"He has played at this level and higher; and hopefully this move will help to galvanise his career. He needs a fresh challenge and we can give that to him.

"Josh is a traditional right winger who can take people on and provide crosses. He is six feet tall and a powerful runner who can supply the forwards and score a goal or two himself."

Low began his career as a trainee with Bristol Rovers and made 30 first team appearances before moving to Leyton Orient in 1999.

After only a short spell at Brisbane Road he joined Cardiff City and spent three years with the Bluebirds, helping them win promotion from the old Football League Division Three.

His next stop was Oldham Athletic for a year before a £165,000 move to Northampton Town. After six months at Leicester City he joined Peterborough United in January 2007 and helped Posh to promotion to League One last season.

Downing has not ruled out adding another player to his squad before the close of the transfer window, which has been extended to midnight on September 1 as this year August 31 falls on a Sunday.

"I'm still talking to one or two people and I'm hopeful of getting another player in if we can," he added.
