TEAM BATH 0
CHELTENHAM TOWN 1Cheltenham Town made it two wins out of two today (July 12) with a 1-0 success against Team Bath at the Bath University Sports Ground.
The students team, newly promoted to the BlueSquare Southern Division, proved to be a very fit side who offered a good level of competition for another group of Cheltenham players looking to complete their first 90 minutes of the pre-season programme.
The Cheltenham side included Brentford player Craig Pead, who can play in either midfield or at full-back and started the match in the right-back position.
Former Southend and Port Vale striker Michael Husbands and ex-Bristol Rovers defender Ryan Paddock were the other trialist on view.
It was a competitive game played on another well tended pitch, although unlike in the earlier match at Worcester City Cheltenham found themselves having to make precautionary substitutions.
Both Paul Connor (19th minute) and Shane Duff (34th minute) felt their hamstrings tighten so were replaced by Dean Maynard and Paddock respectively.
Duff had the best chance of the first half when he met a corner taken by Aaron Ledgister with a powerful header from six yards but the ball flew wide of the target.
David Bird saw a shot held by Team Bath goalkeeper Jake Meredith and at the other end, home striker Tom Petrovski drew a good stop from Scott Brown.
At the start of the second half Maynard shot into the side netting and Team Bath substitute Joe Arnold rolled a shot wide from 15 yards; but a goal finally arrived with 25 minutes left to play.
Ledgister was fouled just inside the penalty area and got up to take the kick himself, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way with a well disguised finish.
