Yates: Foot On The Gas

31 October 2013

Mark Yates looks ahead to the Sky Bet League 2 home match versus York City (3pm) this weekend.

Robins chief Mark Yates speaking to the media ahead of the weekend's game versus York City:

"I think we are finding our form at the minute and I am pleased with how things have gone over the last month in particular. There is still plenty more to come but I just want the boys to keep doing what they're doing. We should have won the game on Saturday and it was a bit disappointing that we didn't kill them off because we created numerous chances but we didn't win so it's important we now get back to winnings ways as soon as we can and that's York on Saturday.

"We need to take our chances, be more ruthless and have that killer edge. It's not often enough that we have been on top in games but on Saturday we were and it was a real example of how we should have kept our foot on the gas and got another goal. It was still a pleasing performance and we can go into Saturday full of heart and full of confidence knowing that our best football is coming and it's ahead of us

"The idea is to keep a settled team and if we need to make changes then great. The boys in the shirts know how difficult my selection dilemmas are but we're not too far away from a settled side. If we have to change it then it is up to that person to come in and make a difference. We don't have the biggest squad in the world but I am reasonably happy with where we are.

"We are ten points off the top of the league so that just shows how tight this league is. We're not kidding ourselves that we are the finished article because we have to work hard now to keep our foot on the gas and make upward progression. We've seen what 2 or 3 wins can do for teams and now we must make sure we turn performances into results.

"We'll know more about the injuries after training today. It's probably a little too soon for Stevie (Elliott) but he has a good week and we want to make sure they are all right. Craig (Braham-Barrett) is alright and the pain has settled down. Weso thinks Jermaine (McGlashan) might be fit but we don't need to rush him back because we played well the other day. If he is fit then it would be silly not to make use of him. Ashley Vincent hopefully will be back too.

"York got a very good result on Tuesday night against Scunthorpe. They put the game to bed very early and that's what we need to do. They are a decent team with some good players. Nigel (Worthington) has managed at international level so they know the time of day but we must make sure we perform as we have done of late and if we do that then we'll give ourselves a chance.

"We need to keep things tight and we know that but we have to keep playing the way we have been playing of late and hopefully we can exploit a couple of their weaknesses. They are strong and they played full of energy the other night but well concentrate on ourselves, keep it tight, keep a clean sheet but play as we have been doing."
