Yates: Time For Talk Is Done

19 September 2013

Mark Yates is eager for his players to build on solid performances ahead of another big weekend of football.

Robins chief Mark Yates speaking to the media ahead of this weekend's away game at Torquay:

"It has been a good week. The lad's aren't too down but we've just not been picking up the results we would have liked. We are still in with a chance we planned to do at the start of the season and the morale has been good. It's about getting back to where we should be but we've come out of two tough games where we have drawn both but could have won both too.

"Results are what counts but performances get you there. We have put in two decent performances now and we have had a good week at the training ground so hopefully we can put in a good performance down there to get us three points. Confidence is starting to come back and they're starting to believe a bit more but sometimes you just need something. Oxford was the first 90 minute performance of the season so far bar a couple of cup games. We just have to keep working and doing our best to eradicate silly mistakes that keep knocking us down.

"The more clean sheets we keep means the more games we will win. We'll score goals but we must stop making silly mistakes and that's everyone because everyone has contributed to our own downfall when it comes to conceding goals.

"It's early days. Alan (Knill) has had a fair bit to do down there (Torquay) in terms if bringing in players but they will be a tough opponent for us. We know a lot of their players and I have had good reports about them. They are hard working and it will be a tough game. Both teams are at the wrong end of the table at this moment in time but we must use Oxford as a springboard to make sure we go there and get three points.

"It's a nice trip down to the seaside but it's all about the performance and the result that the boys put in. We can do all the work on the training ground but the concentration levels must be good on Saturday, They must enjoy themselves, work hard and express themselves and if they do that then we'll be okay.

"Steven Gillespie did well here but finances dictate sometimes. Jamie Cureton is back training now and he is fit. I want to thank Gilly for his efforts because he's joined us at a difficult time but he had one or two really good games where he sparked us off and we should have done better with him. Jamie is back though and we must concentrate on our own. It has been a blow to miss Jamie but Weso has worked really hard with him. His shoulder is fine, his fitness is fine but he nicked his calf and that's what happens sometimes. Hopefully he will get his chance on Saturday.

"We need to go on a run and we know that. If you want to do well in any season then you need to go on runs and we've just gone two games unbeaten against two decent sides. We're a decent side but now we must stop talking about and do it."
