Yates: More Of The Same

24 April 2014

Mark Yates wants more of the same as his Robins prepare to take on Rochdale.

Cheltenham chief Mark Yates speaking to the press ahead of this weekend's game away at Rochdale:

The full press call will be available shortly on Robins Player.

"The mood is okay and it's positive because it's our own hands. It was a really good performance on Monday. It was a pity we haven't too many of them particularly at home but we showed what we could be about because we dealt with a threat of an opposition that had just beaten Rochdale who had just been on a seven game unbeaten run. There were lots of good things and lots of positives to take away from it and we'll go into the final two games of the season in a good frame of mind.

"I think 9th or 10th is doable. The aim is to win the next two games and see where it takes us. I'm sure that would push us up a number of places. We have a tough one on Saturday and we know that. Rochdale have done well this season and I think I read that they have won the most amount of games so we know it'll be tough but if we go there with the same approach as Monday then we have a good chance.

"I've said all along that the league is a strange one. We need to make sure our work rate is there, our stick-ability for when the pressure is on so we can dig it out and see it through as well as trying to play the football we played the other day. We'll do everything we can to win the game.

"There's always pressure when you're fighting for things. We can be a little more relaxed but also with a determination to want to go and prove a few people wrong. We want to show that our performances particularly away from home have been pretty good and that we can compete with the best in our league and we have a chance to do that on Saturday.

"I think Byron has been excellent for the majority of the season. Over the last couple of months we have seen an even bigger improvement from him and that's what people have been commenting on but, for me, he has been good in periods all season. For six to eight weeks he had been doing it a lot more and consistently. 15 goals from him, 11 from Jamie and I think that isn't a bad return. They both want to score more goals between now and the end of the season so let's hope they do.

"We had a good lively session out there today and training was really good with excellent content. Hopefully we can keep them fresh. They won't learn too much off us from today but the intensity was there, the temp was there and the quality too. Hopefully we can have a bright day again tomorrow and be ready for Rochdale."
