Yates: No Sentiment

25 November 2013

Mark Yates believes there will be no sentiment shown by either team as the Robins prepare to take on Rovers.

Mark Yates speaking to the media ahead of Tuesday night's clash versus Bristol Rovers under the floodlights (7.45pm):

Mark's full press call can be viewed right now on Robins Player here.

"Everyone seems okay. There are no major knocks from the weekend. There was a lot of effort put in, a lot of hard work so there were a few bumps and bruises but nothing that Weso has made me aware of that should influence my team. It's a nice position to be in and we need them all firing. Jermaine (McGlashan) is pushing for a start without a doubt. We've got to decide which way we're going and we'll make those decisions.

"We'll probably have someone in (on loan) for Saturday. Our focus is on Tuesday night and we're also making calls but I won't rush it. Our focus is to get three points tomorrow night and making sure we pick the right team and get the players ready for a local derby.

"I do feel a little momentum building and my players are starting to really trust and believe in each other. Fives games unbeaten in the league is testament to that but we also know that there is plenty to do, more hard work, more quality to add and that we need to tweak a few things in our game. We're on an upward curve at the moment.

"To be fair to Newport, they did a good job on us in the first half but I thought we were a lot better in the second half and we could have scored a couple. We've got to make sure we're as good as we can be. I've spoken to a couple of managers at the top of our league this morning and the difference between top and bottom is minimal but it's just about being consistent and as competitive as you can be.

"Rovers have got a couple out tomorrow through suspension but we can't be feeling sorry for them and we need to be as good as we can be and only that will be enough for us to win the game.

"I'm sure there is pressure on them but we our only worrying about ourselves, our league position and our performances. We are fresh, ready and raring to go against a team that will be pumped up and they are physically strong with some young players with energy but they also have some bite about them. They will be difficult to beat and will have a game plan but we'll make sure we deal with that and play with lots of energy, spirit and quality that the fans want to see.

"John (Ward) is a great football man and well respected at this club. It's a tough league at the moment and it'll be good to see him but John won't show any sentiment towards me or this football club and the same goes for me. I'll have a drink with him afterwards and we speak regularly but we want to beat him and he'll want to beat my football club."
